Health workers begin strike mobilisation over unpaid allowances and salary adjustments

The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals has directed its members to begin preparations for a possible strike. This is due to the Federal Government's failure to implement agreed salary adjustments and pay outstanding entitlements.

The union is demanding the immediate payment of 19 months' arrears of reviewed professional allowances. The strike mobilisation follows the expiration of a two-week ultimatum issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress.

The union has expressed dissatisfaction with the prolonged delays in implementing the Federal Government's commitments to the Joint Health Sector Unions. The union has also raised concerns over unpaid arrears and exclusion of some health professionals from call-duty allowances.
